Our respectful approach to accidental discovery
This was a unique project due to the significant earthworks within an environmental and culturally sensitive residential setting.
Challenges on the site included the steep terrain and discovery of a kōiwi burial site. We worked closely with representatives from Te Āti Awa, archaeologist Emily Howitt and the property owner to repatriate the bones to everyone’s satisfaction.
Key project takeaways –
“The final result was very rewarding for the crew and client. Turning unusable steep sand dunes into flat terraces and easy access to the top of the property with stunning views to Kapiti Island.”
