Project details

Otaki North, known as the Plateau by the locals

Works included set out, construction of roading and services and buried rainsmart tanks for stormwater storage.  This geology in this area is characterised by a 1 to 1.5m clay layer overlaying gravels with the odd large boulder.  Infiltration is typically poor and stormwater soakage must therefore extend down to the gravels.

Key project takeaways –

“Engineer advice and scala testing is key to determining if the subgrade is suitable for road construction.  Clay needs to be dry to be compacted again and thus working in the drier summer months is vital when undertaking earthworks up on the plateau.”
